Nancy Eldredge, Ph.D.
President
Nancy Eldredge, Ph.D. is currently in private practice as a psychologist in Tucson, Arizona. She formerly was Director of the Mental Health/Deaf Program in Oregon and Director of the Rehabilitation Counseling/Deafness Program at the University of Arizona. Previous research work covers the cognitive development and social/emotional development of deaf children in the United States and the People’s Republic of China. She has also conducted research on both Australian Aborigines and American Indians who are deaf and continues to work with those populations. She is currently in private practice and utilizes an ecological approach for health and wellness and helps guide clients to achieve their individual goals. In addition, she is fluent in American Sign Language, and held a national certification as an ASL interpreter for over 30years. She also lectures nationally and internationally on techniques for developing resiliency, wellness, overcoming compassion fatigue and secondary trauma, and self-care for health and mental health workers, interpreters, and court reporters, veterinarians, museum docents and others.

Árni Víkingur Sveinsson, Ph.D.,
Past President
Árni Víkingur Sveinsson, Ph.D., obtained his doctorate degree from the University of Arizona school psychology program, and has since practiced in various settings, including preschools and elementary schools, diagnostic clinics for pervasive developmental disorders, community mental health, private practice, and residential programs for teens. Árni is currently the Court psychologist at Pima County Juvenile Court Center, and a faculty member of the Clinical Psychology Internship in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona. He has previously served on the SAPA Board as Secretary and Member at Large.
Árni’s specializations include developmental disorders with specific emphasis on autism and intellectual disabilities, forensic evaluations within the juvenile justice system, legal decision-making and parenting time evaluations, and general therapeutic work with children and families.

Ishani Deo, Ph.D.
Secretary
Ishani Deo, Ph.D., grew up in the Pacific Northwest but fell in love with the desert when she moved to Tucson for her pre-doctoral internship with SAPIC in 2018. After graduating with her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University at Albany, SUNY the following year, she began working at the University of Arizona’s Counseling & Psych Services, where she currently remains as ADHD Clinic Coordinator. In addition to her primary work providing psychodiagnostic evaluation services, she also serves on department and national committees addressing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in healthcare and started an annual D&I Symposium at Campus Health to increase staff learning opportunities around these topics. In her “free” time, she is also Assistant Director and a performing member of a local arts nonprofit, where she provides both instructional and administrative support. She served as SAPA Communications Chair for two terms prior to becoming Secretary in 2024.

Sean Flynn, Ph.D.
Treasurer
Sean Flynn, Ph.D., is a Clinical Psychologist who has been in private practice in Tucson for twenty years.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989. He earned both his Master’s Degree (1993) and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (2000) from Fordham University.
He has a general private practice and works with teens and adults in individual, family, and couples therapy. Dr. Flynn also does forensic work with the Arizona Superior Court and the Tucson City Court, as well as private forensic evaluations.

Jolene Jacquart, Ph.D.
Academic Liaison
Jolene Jacquart, Ph.D., is Director of the Behavioral Health Clinic at the University of Arizona, which is dedicated to providing high quality and affordable therapy for anxiety, depression, and related disorders to the Tucson community while simultaneously providing high quality clinical training to the University of Arizona clinical psychology graduate students. She has a strong theoretical orientation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and uses approaches that are grounded in research.

Jessica Weeks, Ph.D.
Communications Chair
Jessica Weeks, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist who works primarily with children, adolescents, and families. She is in private practice providing psychological assessments and psychotherapy to youth and young adults. She is also the child and family supervisor for the Southern Arizona Psychology Internship Center (SAPIC). Dr. Weeks earned her Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Utah and moved to Tucson to dry out after completing her postdoctoral residency in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Weeks specializes in working with neurodivergent young people, including autism assessments, and children with developmental trauma. Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Weeks worked as a full-time school psychologist in title 1 schools in the Salt Lake Valley and draws on this experience to support her clients in school-related advocacy. When not working, she enjoys exploring the desert and mountains with her husband, young son, and pup.

Liz Dampsey, Ph.D.

Liz Dampsey, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical and health psychologist, and currently serves as the training director for the Southern Arizona Psychology Internship Center (SAPIC) at La Frontera Center. She also has a small private practice working with individuals, couples and families who are dealing with a variety of issues including trauma, mood issues, grief and loss, and substance use issues. She received her MA in psychology from Sonoma State University and her PhD from Fielding Graduate University. Liz’s professional focus has included working with people facing various issues from a trauma-informed, attachment-based approach for the past 20 years. Her life-long interest and passion in the mind/body connection led to her training and work experience as an equine-facilitated psychotherapist and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. She also integrates cognitive behavior therapies, interpersonal process modalities and expressive arts therapy. Liz worked at Sierra Tucson, an inpatient psychiatric hospital/behavioral health treatment facility for 17 years where she served in several positions including Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, coordinator of the grief and spirituality department, equine-assisted psychotherapist, and movement-based expressive arts therapist. In addition, she served on the diversity committee, facilitated LGBTQIA+ support groups and was an LGBTQIA+ staff advocate. Over the past 6 years, Liz has assisted in several Somatic Experiencing trainings. She has served on the board of the Southern Arizona Psychological Association (SAPA) since 2021.

Roxana Samaniego, Ph.D.
SAPA In The Community Chair
Roxana Samaniego, Ph.D., graduated from the Clinical Psychology program at Arizona State University and did her predoctoral internship at the Southern Arizona Psychology Internship Consortium. She began her career in school psychology at the Tempe Elementary School District, and taught for over 10 years for Northern Arizona Distance Programs in the areas of multicultural counseling and educational psychology. Currently, she works in private practice and at the University of Arizona’s Strategic Alternative Learning Technique (SALT) Center. In her work, she strives to bring a multicultural emphasis and further understanding of the various ways in which culture and identity impact all aspects of our work. Roxana has also been a board member of SAPA for a number of years and most recently served as the Past President.

Fernanda Martinez, Ph.D., ABPP

Fernanda Martinez, Ph.D., ABPP is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Tucson. She completed her doctoral degree at Washington State University. She completed her residency and post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Washington in the Rehabilitation Medicine Department. She is Board Certified in Rehabilitation Psychology. She specializes in behavioral and mental health issues faced by individuals across the lifespan who are affected by injury or chronic conditions that lead to disability. Dr. Martinez has worked in a wide variety of settings including in Trauma 1 and community hospitals, home and community settings, outpatient clinics and in private practice. She is a native Spanish speaker and provides treatment in both English and Spanish. Dr. Martinez has served SAPA as a member at large and as a member of SAPA in the community.

Richard (Duffy) Wagman, Ph.D.

Richard (Duffy) Wagman, Ph.D. is a recently retired school psychologist who worked in the Catalina Foothills School District for the last two years and the Sunnyside Unified School District for many years before that. He has served as the President of SAPA twice and has been on the school psychology committee of SAPA for over 25 years. Dr. Wagman has supervised postdoctoral students, interns, and practicum students throughout his career. He is a licensed psychologist and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Dr. Wagman has lived in Tucson since 1980 and loves hiking in our gorgeous mountainsis a recently retired school psychologist who worked in the Catalina Foothills School District for the last two years and the Sunnyside Unified School District for many years before that. Andy Bernstein, Ph.D., CPRP,

Andy Bernstein, PhD, CPRP, maintains an Independent Practice as a Clinical and Community Psychologist, and in the latter role he has been on the Advisory Council of Arizona’s Office of Individual and Family Affairs, and helped to create the Arizona Peer and Family Career Academy. Andy also has served on the Boards of the National Association of Peer Supporters, and the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association (PRA), which administers testing for national certification of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioners (CPRP). With a long history of involvement with marginalized and stigmatized populations, Andy was awarded in 2017 SAPA’s Peter Attarian Award.

Mayday Levine-Mata, Psy.D.

Mayday Levine-Mata, Psy.D., Director, Behavioral Health and Special Programs at Centene Corporation – Arizona Complete Health, is a graduate of Antioch University New England. She was Director of Integrated Care and Training Director for SAPIC, at La Frontera Center. During her career Dr. Levine-Mata has served as: a child custody and evaluator for Pima County Superior Court, Program Director at Sierra Tucson (a 139-bed psychiatric facility treating Chronic Pain, Eating, Mood, Substance Use, and Trauma-related Disorders), and Chief Clinical Officer of CPSA (Pima County’s Regional Behavioral Health Administrator). Dr. Levine-Mata is a clinician, supervisor, consultant, and administrator. Her approach is client-centered and collaborative, believing that each individual is the expert in their needs. She has served on the SAPA board in different capacities since 2008 including the following positions: Treasurer, President-Elect, President in 2011, Past President, and Member At Large.

Courtney Schuneman, Ph.D.

Courtney Schuneman, Ph.D., is a licensed Clinical Psychologist in private practice in Tucson. She completed her doctorate at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has worked at Davis Monthan Air Force Base, Sierra Tucson, and Psychology Specialists in Bloomington, IL. She uses an evidenced based, client-centered approach to work with families, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Dr. Schuneman’s areas of specialization include: trauma, grief/loss, post-partum mood disorders, infertility, ADHD, behavioral problems, anxiety, depression, family conflict, and working with the GLBTQ population. Dr. Schuneman has been the SAPA In The Community Chair for two years. Before that she was the Professional Outreach Committee Chair for two years and an active Member-At-Large for one year. She has been actively involved in the SITC committee since its inception and is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, educating the public about mental health issues, and promoting awareness about ways to begin the healing process. This passion led her to be awarded the 2020 Distinguished Contribution to Advocacy Award by the Arizona Psychological Association.
